World‑First: FiberHome Unveils Industry‑First Single‑Wave Tbit‑Class S+C+L Extended‑Band Raman‑Free Ultra‑Large‑Capacity Transmission System

Nov 07, 2023 · Optical Communication Technical News

During 2023 ACP Asia Communications and Photonics Conference, FiberHome, together with China Mobile Research Institute and National Center of Information Optoelectronics Innovation, officially released the industry‑first single‑wave Tbit‑class S+C+L extended‑band raman‑free ultra‑large‑capacity transmission system and completed field transmission verification.

Background: C‑Band Capacity Approaching Theoretical Limits

Booming AI computing services drive mass deployment of 800G and 1.6T transceivers. Conventional C‑band spectrum is becoming exhausted. Simply increasing per‑channel rate cannot sustain traffic growth, so expanding operating bands becomes industry consensus.

S+C+L combines S, C and L communication bands, greatly expanding available spectrum compared with pure C‑band. However S‑band and L‑band amplifiers have performance limitations, traditionally requiring complex raman amplification which raises CAPEX and OPEX.

Key Test Specifications

  • Working bands: combined S+C+L extended bands
  • Total available spectrum: 19.5 THz
  • Aggregate transmission capacity: 150.27 Tbps
  • Fiber type: G.654.E ultra‑low‑loss fiber
  • Core technologies: probabilistic constellation shaping, ultra‑wideband optical amplification, nonlinearity mitigation algorithms
  • Feature: raman‑free architecture, lower hardware complexity for smooth operator network upgrade

Industry Significance

This field trial proves practical feasibility of S+C+L raman‑free solution. Operators can multiply fiber capacity without massive amplifier hardware retrofit. It paves the way for next‑generation optical networks after commercial 800G / 1.6T for DCI and backbone transport.
